Upma

There are many types of upma and this is the basic sooji upma. Upma is a hot favorite South Indian Breakfast!

Upma is a quick and delicious comfort food that it is prepared in every household at least once in a week, which is made in sooji or semolina or Rava. For this recipe we need only few ingredients which we use in out daily cooking. Here goes it


Easy to make & make it Easy:

Ingredients:-


Sooji (upma Rava) – 1 cup

Green chili – 3

Onion – 1 cup (cut into length wise)

Cashew – 3 (optional)

Water –2 cups

Oil- 2 tsp

Mustard seeds – ½ tsp

Urad dal – ½ tsp

Channa dal – ½ tsp

Curry leaves – 1 spring

Salt – to taste

Method:-

Heat oil in a pan and once it is heated up add channa dal, urad dal, mustard seeds. Allow mustard seeds to splutter and add curry leaves. Then add onion, green chilies and fry till the onion turn into translucent. Once it is done add water and salt to the mixture and allow it to boil. When the mixture started to boil add sooji slowly and stir continuously; make sure there should not be any lumps. Keep stirring it for 3 mins on low heat. Switch off the stove and serve hot with chutney.


Note: Same method for the seemiya upma. You should replace upma (Rava)/sooji to seemiya for it.

Bonda: Potato and onion bonda

Ingredients:-

Gram flour – 1 cup

Chili powder – 1 tsp

Salt – to taste

Water – ¼ cup

Method:-

Mix all the ingredients and make like dosai batter. If you need and more water.

For potato Bonda:-

Ingredients and method of potato masala is same as potato Podimas.

Method:-

Make small balls out of it and dip into gram flour mix and fry the balls into oil. Turns the balls every 2 secs and cook until it turns into golden brown.

For Onion Bonda:-

Ingredients:-

Small onion – 10 or you can use normal onion

Green chili – 2

Method:-

Cut onion and green chili into small piece and mix it with gram flour mix. Pour a Tsp of the mixture into oil and fry till it turns into golden brown. Cook on both the sides and place it in a paper towel.

Finally serve these bonda’s with ketchup.
