BisiBelaBath (Sambar Rice)

Bisibelabath

Ingredients:-

 

Rice – 1 ½ cup

Tuvar dal – ¾ cup

Vegetables – 1 cup (carrot, beans, and peas)

Onion – 1

Tomato – 1

Tamarind – small lemon size

Sambar powder – 1 tsp

Turmeric powder – ½ tsp

Salt – to taste

Water – 4 cups

 

To Grind:-

 

Dry coconut – 2 Tsp

Dhania seeds – 1 tsp

Methi seeds – ½ tsp

Jeera seeds – ½ tsp

Pepper corns – 1 tsp

Fennel seeds – ½ tsp (optional)

Hing – a pinch

Khus khus – ½ tsp

Cloves – 3

Cinnamon – 1’ inch stick

Channa dal – 1 tsp

Red chilies – 4 – 5

 

Method:-

 

Cook the dal, vegetables, onion and tomato in a pressure cook and keep aside. Fry and grind all the ingredients “to grind” and make a paste. Mix the rice, cooked dal, vegetables, grounded paste, tamarind, sambar powder, turmeric powder, salt and 4 cups of water. Pressure cook these mixture for 5 whistles and serve hot with raita.
