Cabbage Kootu

cabbage  Kootu


Cabbage – ½ lb
Channa dal – 1 cup (boiled)
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Green chilies – 3
Onion – 1
Tomato – 1
Shredded Coconut – ½ cup
Oil – 2 tsp
Salt – for taste


Heat oil in a pan and once it is heated up add cumin seeds and allow it to splutter. Then add onion, green chilies and fry till it becomes golden brown. Add Tomatoes to these mixtures and fry till it turns into mushy. Once it done, add turmeric powder, salt and fry for few minutes. cabbage kootu

Then add cabbage and cook for 6-7 minutes. Add these mixtures to the cooked channa dal (in a pressure cooker) and cook till 1 whistle. Open the cooker and add coconut and cook for 5-6 minutes. Your cabbage kootu is ready to serve with chappathi, rice.
